BLUE 2 GREEN DEVISED A FRENCH
Drainage System
Case Study: Homeowner had water entering a Suite.
Problem: Suite lower than the hill and the water ran along it.
Solution: Device a drainage system that will take the water to the street. Blue2 Green devised a French Drainage System. The first thing you must look at, where is the water really running. In this case, because the grade wasn’t right either, water was running in both directions.

DESIGN AND
Structural Features
- You will need a trencher machine and dig about 12-15
inches depending on the grade. Use good solid catch
basins to collect the water and then run it to the
designated area. Catch basin size either 12 or 18
inches. Make sure you have a measuring slope bevel
with you and have the crew member check every
12 inches or less. The fall should be part of a
downward slope. - You need Gravel 57 or small pea gravel. Sometimes I
like to mix the two. (gray color gravel) - Buy Corrugated 4 or 6 inch with a (Sock) so the pipe
does not get dirty over the years. It is helpful to keep
it clean. It will have some accumulation of dirt but
your device should be as clean as possible. And when
you install it in the trench, try to keep the corrugated
as clean as possible. Once completed, put the clean
gravel in the trench.
SOME OTHER HELPFUL DRAINAGE SUGGESTIONS
For Your Charlotte / Fort Mill Home
Gutters and Downspouts
Ensure that gutters are clear of debris and properly sloped to direct water away from the house. Downspouts should extend at least 5-10 feet away from the foundation to prevent water from pooling near the house.
French Drains
French drains are trenches filled with gravel or rock and a perforated pipe that redirects water away from the house. They can be installed along the perimeter of the house or in problem areas where water tends to accumulate.
Enhanced Curb Appeal
Proper grading around the house is crucial for directing water away from the foundation. The soil should slope away from the house at a minimum slope of 1 inch per foot for the first 6 feet
RUNOFF SOLUTIONS
For Your Charlotte / Fort Mill Home
Always find a drop off or a runoff for the water to go. If it does not have runoff and you are up hill, you may need to get a pump to pump it out of the collection and direct it to the street or run off. Try not to have it go to your neighbor’s yard. keep the peace if you know what I mean. It does not hurt to put additional medium to large rocks where the water will run off, so to reduce erosion on this area.
